Lyrics

[Verse 1]
They brought a little puppy in today
She wobbles when she tries to walk or play
She has three legs, she stays against the wall
She is so small she barely eats at all
I cannot see her through the concrete stone
I only hear her crying all alone
I give a gentle bark to say "I'm near"
I listen till the crying disappears

[Pre-Chorus]
But when the ceiling lights buzz on again
I listen for her breathing in the pen
I hear the scrubbing brush against the floor
And clanking metal through the concrete door

[Chorus]
Some dogs go out the front door with a leash
With happy tails and someone nice to meet
But some go out the back door in the night
And they don't come back to the morning light
I stay right here upon my concrete square
I wag my tail at everyone out there
I’m being good, I’m waiting for the day
My human comes to take me home to play

[Verse 2]
The girl who brings the food is someone new
She doesn't scratch my ears the way she used to do
The blanket feels so thin against my skin
It smells like bleach where other dogs have been
I close my eyes and think about the rug
Where I felt sick and needed just a hug
But something warm came out of me that day
It stained the floor and made it look all gray

[Verse 3]
My human saw the mess and shook his head
He didn't put me in my cozy bed
He passed the leash into the worker's hand
He said some words I didn't understand
He signed the paper, turned and walked away
He didn't even look back where I lay
He didn't say "Goodbye" or touch my head
So I just sit and watch the door instead

[Bridge]
But now my legs are getting hard to move
I try to stand but can't find the groove
The lights are turning off, the day is done
I haven't felt the warmth of any sun
A different man is coming with a key
He looks at all the dogs... then looks at me...

[Outro]
The metal clicks, the gate is opening wide.
I knew it. He was coming for a ride.
I force my legs to stand, I wag my tail.
I knew my being good would never fail.
We’re walking down the hall, towards the light
My human must be waiting in the night.
Oh, hurry sir. Please open up the door.
I’m coming Home. Just like I was before.
I'm coming Home.
I'm coming Home
